چکیده

Abstract. Stellar rotation influences our understanding of stellar structure and evolution, binary systems, clusters etc. and therefore the benefits of a large and highly accurate database on stellar rotation, obtained by GAIA, will be manifold. To study the prospects of GAIA measurement of projected rotational velocities vrot sin i, we use synthetic stellar spectra to simulate the determination of vrot sin i at different resolutions (R=5000 20000) and S/N (10-300). Results on the accuracy of vrot sin i, presented here, show that GAIA will be capable to measure also low rotational velocities (∼ 10 km/s), provided that the resolution is higher than 10.000, or preferably even higher.

Grids of synthetic spectra for the GAIA mission

Two sets of grids of Kurucz ATLAS 9 model spectra are presented. The first one covers the GAIA spectral interval, while the second one which is still being computed covers the whole range from 2500 – 10500 Å. Both grids include parameters needed for realistic spectral simulation, e.g. stellar rotation and are computed at R = 20000 and lower spectral resolutions. They can be useful for preparati...

GAIA Spectroscopy and Radial Velocities

GAIA spectroscopic and radial velocity performancies are reviewed on the base of groundbased test observations and simulations. The prospects for accurate analysis of stellar atmospheres (temperature, gravity, chemical abundances, rotation, peculiarities) and precise radial velocities (single stars, binaries, pulsating stars) are colorful provided the spectral dispersion is high enough. A highe...

GAIA accuracy on radial velocities assessed from a synthetic spectra database

Spectrograph aboard the GAIA satellite operates in the near-IR, in the 8490– 8740 Å window accessible also from the ground. The most important parameter yet to be determined is the spectral resolution. Realistic estimates of the zodiacal light background are obtained and a total of 2 × 10 correlation runs are used to study the accuracy of radial velocity measured by the spectrograph as a functi...

Gaia-ESO Survey: The analysis of pre-main sequence stellar spectra

Context. The Gaia-ESO Public Spectroscopic Survey is obtaining high quality spectroscopy of some 100,000 Milky Way stars using the FLAMES spectrograph at the VLT. Aims. This paper describes the analysis of UVES and GIRAFFE spectra acquired in the fields of young clusters whose population includes pre-main sequence (PMS) stars. Methods. Both methods that have been extensively used in the past an...
